The City of Niceville has its own community police department and fire department. The same is true for the City of Valparaiso.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement services for unincorporated parts of the greater Niceville area. Fire protection services in the unincorporated areas are provided by the East Niceville Fire District and North Bay Fire District.
Local ambulance service is provided by Okaloosa County’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) which provides pre-hospital Advanced Life Support emergency medical care to everyone in the community 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. EMS has ambulances based in Niceville.
Firefighters serve as first responders.
The Niceville Police Department
The Niceville Police Department protects and serves the citizens of Niceville, and those that pass through our community. These services include, but are not limited to, insuring the safety and well being of citizens, patrolling for violations of law and public nuisance, investigations of criminal activity, and the education of public safety issues.
Animal complaints are handled primarily by the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), with the Niceville Police Department providing support for PAWS after hours and during emergencies.
The organizational structure of the Niceville Police Department includes the Police Chief, Patrol Division Commander (Lieutenant), Sergeants, Detectives, Patrol and K-9 Officers, Communications Officers, and Crossing Guards.
Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office serves and protects nearly 200,000 year-round residents as well as hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, with approximately 250 sworn personnel and ninety civilians. The Sheriff’s Office provides a full range of law enforcement services.
The Administrative Building of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is located in Shalimar. Two full service offices are located at the Courthouse Annex in Shalimar, and in Crestview. Smaller substations are maintained in Destin, Bluewater Bay, Okaloosa Island, Sylvania Heights, Baker, Laurel Hill and Hetherington.
Niceville Fire Department
The Niceville Fire Department proudly protects 22,000 people living in an area of 14 square miles. The department is committed to serving the community with the highest level of protection for life and property. This is achieved by providing compassionate service in an atmosphere that encourages innovation, professional development and diversity.
East Niceville Fire District
The East Niceville Fire District protects the unincorporated areas on the east side Niceville, providing for the safety and welfare of the public through preservation of life, property, and the environment.
North Bay Fire District
The North Bay Fire Control District covers approximately 6.5 square miles, from Rocky Bayou Bridge east to the Walton County line, to the northern border with Eglin Air Force Base and south to the Choctawhatchee Bay. The District provides 24/7 coverage with Fire Suppression and Advanced Life Support personnel.
